Topics of Interest
A number of techno-economic drivers are radically changing Telecommunications and ICT scenarios. Service Providers will have to face unprecedented challenges and opportunities posed, for example, by the impressive increase of video traffic, by emerging of new service scenarios (e.g., Tactile Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, Cloud Robotics, A.I.) in a more and more competitive and dynamic market.
In order to face these challenges, Service Providers aim at making their infrastructure efficient, programmable, elastic and agile. In this context, SDN and NFV are two enabling technologies of an overall systemic transformation called IT-zation or Softwarization which is steering the evolution not only of Networks, but also of Service Platforms (e.g., Cloud and Edge Computing architectures) and even future terminals, machines and smart things. Overall it’s a systemic digital business transformation of several industries.
Some key areas of transformation include: infrastructures architectural delayering, simplifications and optimization of the operational processes (e.g., through orchestrators and new paradigms of OSS/BSS capable of managing the complexity and heterogeneity of SDN and NFV infrastructures), development of flexible and programmable “platforms of platforms”. If mastering the software is recognized a must for a successful digital business transformation, standardization of open source software solutions and interfaces is still felt to be a hot issue. Eventually SDN and NFV are lowering the thresholds for new Players to enter in the Telecommunications and ICT ecosystems, so it is likely that Service Providers strategies will be more and more influenced by the dynamics of new Competitors (even Start-ups) entering their business segments, the analogous transformation of the Technology Providers, as well as the regulation rules.
The following topics will be particularly investigated:
Track A: Network and Service IT-zation – chaired by Akihiro Nakao (University of Tokyo, Japan)
- Functional Decomposition
- Edge and Fog Computing
- SDN and NFV as enabling technologies for 5G
- 5G and ICN
- Network and IT slicing (vertical and horizontal)
- Intent-based networking
- Virtualization technologies and approaches (recursive)
- Real-time communications (services and platforms)
Track B: Internet of Things – chaired by Luigi Atzori (University of Cagliari, Italy)
- Operating System for IoT
- Security, trust and privacy, identity management
- Verified systems for IoT
- Business models
- Collaborative applications and systems, context awareness
- Platforms of Platforms: IOT vs Industry 4.0, Pervasive Robotics, Self-driving vehicles,Tactile Internet, Immersive Communications, etc
Track C: Actionable Big Data and Artificial Intelligence – chaired by Corrado Moiso (TIM, Italy)
- Actionable Data for network and services
- Big Data for IoT
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data analytics algorithms and platforms
- Security and privacy
- Services based on A.I. and Cognitive capabilities (future terminals)
Track D: Control Orchestration and Management and Policy – chaired by Diego Lopez (TID, Spain)
- Functions embedding in Service Platform
- Multi-domain, multi-layer Orchestration (two sided, i.e., for service platforms and network infrastructures)
- Integration and support of OSS and BSS into SDN- and NFV-based networks
- Network & Service Orchestration and Management using Machine Learning
- Operating System for 5G and Real Time Operations
- Policy-based management
- end-to-end resilience (UE, Access, Core)
- Information and Data Modeling, including modeling languages (Service modeling, resource modeling, YANG, OASIS TOSCA, etc…
- Microservices for networks
Call for Workshop
ICIN 2017 solicits proposals for workshop. These proposals should indicate a brief description of the topic and motivate the potential interest to the audience. Workshop proposals should include a proposal for a chairman (if different from the submitter) and potential Speakers (both short and long paper are welcome).
Demo Track (short papers)
ICIN 2017 invites proposals for research prototypes and demonstrations on all the topics from tracks A, B, C and D. Prospective contributors are expected to write a short paper proposal, preferably including a system architecture illustration.
Call for panel
ICIN 2017 solicits proposals for panels. These proposals should indicate a brief description of the topic and why it will be of interest to the audience. Panel topics should be related to the main themes of the conference and involve various perspectives and viewpoints. Proposals should include a suggestion for a panel moderator (if different from the submitter) and potential panelists.

Submission Instructions
Submissions should be original, previously unpublished work not currently under review by other conferences or publications. Papers submitted to ICIN are assessed on the basis of originality, significance, technical soundness, clarity of expression and interest to a wide audience. Commercial presentations will be automatically rejected.
Only PDF files will be accepted for the review process and all submissions must be done electronically through EDAS at https://edas.info/N22578. A short (50-word) abstract is requested on registration of the submission. All submissions must be written in English and must use standard IEEE two-column conference templates that can be downloaded from: http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/pubservices/confpub/AuthorTools/conferenceTemplates.html
Full Paper – maximum length of 8 pages (10-point font) including tables, figures and references.
Short Paper – minimum length of 3 pages (10-point font) including tables, figures and references.

General instructions
Accepted and presented papers will be published in the ICIN 2017 Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore® as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
Acceptance of papers can be conditional subject to revisions required as a result of reviewers’ comments. Accepted authors will be invited to submit a final paper taking account of feedback provided. Session chairmen may recommend rejection of final papers that do not take account of reviewers’; requirements and expectations in an acceptable manner. The TPC reserves the right to remove such papers from the programme.
Accepted papers should be presented at the conference by one of the authors. An author of an accepted paper is required to complete paid registration at full (member or non-member) rate for the conference prior to uploading the final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. There is no refund for cancellation but substitutions may be made at any time prior to the event.
Speakers must register for the conference at the full (member or non-member) rate even if they are a student. Each speaker can present only one paper in the programme.
Failure to complete paid speaker registration before the deadline will result in withdrawal of the paper from the conference programme and the proceedings. Any paper not presented at the conference will be excluded from the conference proceedings.
Papers accepted for the special session and demo track will be published as short papers in the proceedings.
Before you upload your camera-ready paper, you will need to submit your IEEE copyright form using the IEEE electronic copyright mechanism. Please follow the link provided on the paper submission page.
